Your first program: print()

Use print() to make Python talk, and learn what strings are along the way.

In this lesson

print() is the first tool almost every programmer learns. You give it something, and it shows it on the screen. Simple, but it is how you will check your work in every lesson that follows.

We also meet our first piece of vocabulary: a string, which is just text wrapped in quotes.

Try it yourself

Copy this, run it, then change one thing and run it again. That is how it sticks.

first_program.py
print("Hi! My name is Willow.")
print("I am learning Python.")
print("Small steps, every day.")
